Artificial Intelligence Presentation

This week's option topic presented in class was on Artificial Intelligence. It was interesting to learn how involved artificial intelligence is in so many applications. In regards to my future prospects of teaching in this area, it is interesting to consider how this might be done. The presentation was very effective in demonstrating the scope of where artificial intelligence is at today, however the question for teachers is where will it be tomorrow?

As previously discussed it is important that teachers are prepared, and ready to prepare their students for future technological developments in an ever changing world. Artificial intelligence has scope for many applications, potentially it is being used if not prospectively usable in my focus areas of Technology. The Westpoint Bridge software illustrated in the presentation taught by Mitchell and Shea was very effective in demonstrating how AI is used within engineering today. In my future lessons relating to truss analysis in Engineering Studies could employ such software, and link across syllabus and curriculum accordingly, that is between ICT and Engineering Studies. This can be useful in continuing to draw students attention to the integrated nature of computing with real world applications and uses. Robotics is one field that is using AI to a considerable extent today, the video below illustrates some recent examples, which could be useful in showing students through video or even in real life.
